If you've got kids, you know you need to take care of their teeth. To do that, you know that your kids need to see the dentist at least twice a year. During those semi-annual dental appointments, your kids will have their teeth cleaned. The dentist will also take care of any treatment that might be necessary. However, there may be times when it becomes necessary for your kids to be seen by an emergency dentist. When that happens, you want to make sure that you seek treatment as soon as possible. Here are just three of the reasons why your kids may need to be seen by an emergency dentist.  

Their Jaw Is Swollen

If one of your kids has developed swelling in their jaw, you need to take the problem seriously, especially if there's no obvious sign of injury to their face. If you can't find any outward cause for the swelling, you'll need to look inside their mouth. Facial swelling can be caused by dental abscesses, especially if the swelling is on the jaw, cheek, or neck areas. If your child has an abscess on one of their teeth, you should take them to an emergency dentist as soon as possible. Dental abscesses can cause intense pain and can pose a serious health risk for your child. 

They've Lost a Tooth

Kids can get quite active when they're roughhousing. Unfortunately, when kids roughhouse, they're at an increased risk for tooth loss. If one of your kids has lost a tooth, you'll need to take immediate action. If your child's tooth socket is bleeding, the first thing you need to do is stop the flow of blood. The next thing you need to do is find the tooth. If you're able to find the tooth, the dentist might be able to prevent permanent loss. Finally, take your child and their tooth to an emergency dentist near you. 

Their Mouth Is Injured

If your child has sustained mouth damage, it's a good idea to visit an emergency dentist. This is important, even if you don't see any visible tooth or gum damage. Whenever a mouth sustains impact damage, there's always a chance that a tooth has been damaged at the root. Unfortunately, root damage is not visible to the naked eye, which is why a trip to the emergency dentist is important. The dentist will be able to identify root damage and provide emergency treatment for your child's mouth injury.
